Marta Elder
began her dance career at a chain studio. After 1 1/2 years of lessons, she
was asked to become a teacher. She taught at that studio for 5 1/2 years,
learning American Style Ballroom & Latin there.
She then became an independent teacher, teaching at Berry
Dance Studio. She taught there for 9 years, and like any good teacher,
continued her dance education learning the International Dance styles. In
1985, she started to learn Country Western
dancing.
In 1992, Marta found her dance home at Walters. She
partnered with Carroll Shaw to compete on the UCWDC Country-Western circuit,
where they competed from 1992-1998, achieving Masters Level (the top level).
One high point of their competitive career was being asked to compete on TNN
Television for the National Championship. She and Carroll were well known
around the world for their flashy costumes and hair styles.
Marta enjoys teaching all styles of dance, and has
danced with Pro/Am students in events, as far away as England. She teaches
the Monday night (Ballroom) & Thursday night (Country) group classes at
Walters. |
